“But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.” 1 Corinthians 7:2
Someone asked me this question. Is prostitution okay for a Christian? As I read the person’s reason for asking, my heart was so broken for her. I honestly don’t know if she is a believer because I can’t see a believer asking such a question.
In this woman’s situation, her husband left her and even though she has a job, the money is not enough. I had to read her question over and over again to make sure that was the question.
So many of us led different lives before God saved us. For some of us, it took a while after God saved us to understand what purity meant but the Spirit of God did not gave up on us. Some of us chose lifestyles that suited us while some of us chose lifestyles because that was the examples we had as children since it was all we knew.
Sex is something that many don’t see as precious and only for the marriage bed. I have witnessed many who attend church as a couple, not married but setting up house as husband and wife. I see some serving faithfully in the church and yet engaging in sexual sin outside of marriage. Why do some find it okay to partake in the very thing that God said to flee from? Many have said, “ I have been forgiven so when I sin, it is as if, I have not done anything wrong” While that is true, it doesn’t give us the license to sin.
“ Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make your obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.” Romans 6:12-14
Paul is addressing that we should not give in to sin because sin will control us. As human beings living in this flesh daily, we are vulnerable to sin for we are weak and can easily fall into temptation. Any human being who says that they can’t be easily tempted, watch it, because there go you! Paul said, “ For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.” Romans 7:17-19
One can’t claim to be born again and live in habitual sin, which contradicts the word of God. “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. Romans 1:21-25
“ Do you knot know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
So case is closed, sex outside of marriage is wrong, it is not honoring to the Lord and we prostitute ourselves when we sleep with different men.
How can we who have a covenant with God through His Son, Jesus Christ choose to live a life of immorality?
I beseech you, those who are in Christ, study the scriptures and don’t believe that we can live a grace free life and do what we want. Scripture clearly said. “We who are in Christ was bought with a price which is the death of Christ on the cross.
Those of you, who are out side of Christ, cry out to him for mercy so that he can grant you repentance for salvation. Jesus Christ is the only one who can grant anyone repentance, no one else has that authority here on earth.
Father, please open the eyes of those who belongs to you that is living a life of sexual sin and refusing to surrender to you by walking away from it. Cause them to be grieved by their sin, cause them to be disgusted by their disobedience and what they are doing to the temple of the Holy Spirit. In Christ’s name, Amen!
