This was written about 4 years ago when my grand-children was visiting us for Christmas.

2 Corinthians 5:17.. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

After a couple days of looking at all the decorations and noticing the many different types of Nativity Sets, Mason said “Gramma why are you so much into Jesus”, of course my little mouthpiece Sophia replied,   ”Mason it is because He died for her sins”  I sat there amazed at his question but mostly at my 4yr old Sophia’s response. I love collecting Nativity Sets because it is a conversational piece, it tells the greatest story, which is of our Savior’s birth.   What joy it brought to my heart that my Mason recognized the love I have for my Savior and Lord, and Sophia understanding the gospel.  During the Christmas season it is easily forgotten that God is the real reason for us having another day, let alone another year.

What is your resolution for the New Year? The most important resolution that I made 26years ago was on New Years day. I never failed on this one because it was very real to me. I found out on that New Years day at church that I am a sinner who needed to be saved. Jesus Christ is the only one who could free me from my sins and it is only because of His shed blood, I could become white as snow.

He was not going to make my problems go away, but He would show me how to handle it and that is by putting my trust in Him. He was not going to make me rich but He would show me how to be a good steward of my finances so I could bless others (still working on being a good steward) He was not going to take my pain away but He would walk with me through it and make me a stronger person for it. He was not going to heal all my sickness but He would comfort me and give me the strength to endure it each day.

He showed me in His word that the following is a result of the fall—Sin:

Hurt and pain, war, divorces, spouses cheating on their spouses, stealing, killing, Homosexual and Lesbian lifestyle, abortion and hate. He showed me that because of sin, the very creation He created, they hate Him, they say there is no God; they denied His only Son.  He showed me because of sin, those who despise Him, says His Son is not the only way to Heaven, that Jesus Christ is not God, that there are many ways to heaven, that it is okay to embrace all religions and believe it is okay. My dear friend, that New Year resolution that I made about 26years ago was the real thing, it was not counterfeit, it was genuine because I recognized that I am a sinner who needed the very God of this universe to save my sin.

My prayer for each of you is that you would take a step of faith to trust the Living God, He is the only New Year Resolution anyone needs. He will make you that new person that you so desire to be.

He is the only One that can regenerate your soul. Romans 6

He is the only Living Water that will quench your thirst for truth John 4:10.

He is the only Bread that will feed your soul for life. John 6:48

He is the only Rock that you can hold on to for dear life and know that you will never slip or fall. Psalm 62:2

He is the only Light that will never dim; He will light your world forever. John 8:12

He is the only Author who can write about your life and is never wrong.  Hebrews 12:2

He is the only Physician who can heal you completely in a split second without you having to come back for a second healing. Matthew 15:30

He is the only provider you need. He will give not only what you need, but will supply an abundance Psalm 54:4

If you ever want to be into someone, Jesus is the One. This New Year may He be your obsession, may He be your reason for life, and may He be your desire before all things.

Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your awesome love and grace. Thank You for saving me, a wretched sinner who was doomed for hell but yet You chose me a sinner because of what Your Son did for me on the cross. I pray that this year many will come to recognize their need for You, the Only Living God. Go to God, tell Him you need to repent, tell Him you need salvation, He will hear you.

Those of us who are in Christ, may we remember that we are a new person, our old self has died and all things are new for us.   For us believers, may this New Year be a year for us to grow deeper in our walk with Jesus Christ, not just going to church on Sunday and thinking we are doing our good, Christian thing.  It is understanding the gospel and living at the cross.
